Introduction to the Small and Medium Enterprise Administration (SMEA)

The Small and Medium Enterprise Administration (SMEA) is an agency under the Ministry of Economic Affairs of the Republic of China (Taiwan), responsible for the development and guidance of Taiwan's small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and emerging industries.

The primary objective of SMEA's subsidy application is to "assist in the growth and development of small and medium enterprises and emerging businesses, enhance industrial competitiveness, and promote economic growth." SMEA's scope of activities includes:

1. Drafting, planning, and implementing policies, regulations, and guidance measures for the development of SMEs.
2. Designing, planning, and implementing financial development services for SMEs.
3. Planning and executing initiatives for the development of emerging businesses, knowledge development, incubation of industries, and social innovation.
4. Developing and executing programs to assist SMEs in innovative services, regional and unique industry development.
5. Planning and executing programs to assist SMEs in digital transformation, technological innovation, and circular economy initiatives.

SMEA offers various subsidy programs to support the development of small and medium enterprises and emerging businesses. Some of the currently open subsidy programs include:

1. Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR): Providing research and development funds for small businesses to facilitate the development of innovative products or services.
2. Subsidies for the Low-Carbon and Smart Transformation of Small and Medium-sized Manufacturing Industries: Assisting small and medium-sized manufacturing industries in adopting low-carbon and smart technologies to enhance competitiveness.
3. Start-up Procurement Subsidy Program: Encouraging government agencies to procure products or services from startups, aiding in the expansion of market opportunities.
4. Dream Startup Project: Assisting startups in obtaining funding for entrepreneurship to accelerate their growth.
