Net-zero Building Industry Alliance is established Lin Youchang: Combining industry, government and academia to make the pie bigger
In order to promote the national net-zero policy and gather the capabilities of industry, government, academia and research in the smart net-zero building industry chain, the Ministry of Interior and representatives from all walks of life jointly initiated the formation of the "Taiwan Smart Net-zero Building Industry Alliance". Minister of the Interior Lin Youchang served as the initiator of the alliance on the 13th Attend the founding meeting.
Minister of the Interior Lin Chui-chang stated today that in the past, when promoting the net-zero carbon emission policy, the Ministry of the Interior lacked an industrial perspective. Therefore, they initiated the establishment of the Smart Net-Zero Building Industry Alliance to identify practical and feasible implementation routes, eliminate obstacles, and collaborate with relevant government departments and industries. They believe that this approach can expand the industry.
To promote the national net-zero policy and consolidate the capacity of the smart net-zero building industry from production to government, academia, and research, the Ministry of the Interior, along with representatives from various sectors, jointly initiated the formation of the "Taiwan Smart Net-Zero Building Industry Alliance." The inaugural meeting was held this evening, with Secretary-General Lin Chia-lung of the Presidential Office and the initiator of the alliance, Lin Chui-chang, in attendance.
During his address, Lin Chui-chang mentioned that in March of this year, the Executive Yuan passed the National Development Council's plan outlining Taiwan's 2050 net-zero emission pathway and strategic overview. The goal is to guide the public and private sectors in implementing sustainable policy objectives for achieving net-zero emissions by 2050, which is a national-level policy.
Lin Chui-chang expressed that he has been contemplating how to fulfill the missions assigned to the Ministry of the Interior, which includes urban planning, national land planning, construction, and housing—everything related to urban environments and living spaces. Although it falls under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of the Interior, it is somewhat lacking in industrial thinking when implementing policies in the past.
He believes that the national policy of achieving net-zero carbon emissions should be industrialized and become a new strategy and tactic for improving life and driving economic development. Initiating and constructing such a platform through the Ministry of the Interior is more meaningful. As one of the founders, he is pleased to have facilitated the formal establishment of the industry alliance.
Lin Chui-chang mentioned that when initiating the alliance, they hoped for the support of "108 heroes," but now there are 195 members in the alliance. Through the connection of the platform, they aim to find practical and feasible implementation routes. Under the policy goals of the Executive Yuan, they will identify obstacles and challenges one by one. They will address barriers in terms of policy, regulations, and standards. Additionally, they will think more carefully and clearly about encouraging industrial policies.
He emphasized that to promote the development of smart net-zero buildings in Taiwan, technology is crucial. The Building Research Center and Building Research Institute play key roles. By collaborating with the National Science Council, the Ministry of Economic Affairs, and relevant industries, they can join hands to overcome obstacles. In the past, there was a lack of an integrated strategy, but he believes that the establishment of the industry alliance will definitely expand the industry, driving related industries, including building materials, energy, and home appliances, to see results soon.
