"Play the Rainbow, Bright Summer" Kaohsiung City Aiyi Lions Club's 112th Ukulele Charity Children's Camp Begins

The Kaohsiung Ai-Yi Lions Club hosted the Ukulele Children's Camp for the 8th consecutive year during the summer vacation. In the summer of 2023, they conducted 8 sessions every Sunday morning, with 24 elementary school children participating. Over the past 8 years, they have taught 200 children to play the ukulele. On July 16th, the current president, accompanied by Lions Club members, visited the camp held at In One Sustainable Technology Co., Ltd., led by Chairman Xue Wei-li, bringing encouragement and joy to the young participants.

President Xue expressed that when the Ai-Yi Lions Club was established in 2016, they deeply felt that children are the hope of the future. For children from disadvantaged families, learning artistic skills is not easy. Therefore, in collaboration with the Taiwan Holistic Care Service Association, they initiated this service project for underprivileged children. The goal is to let the children learn to play the ukulele, gain confidence on stage, and accumulate small successes that contribute to significant achievements in life.

Teaching ukulele skills to children in just two months requires strategic and effective methods. They adopted a one-to-two learning approach, with one teaching volunteer for every two children. This year, the 12 teaching volunteers are composed of members from the youth and senior groups, creating a beautiful scene of intergenerational learning with participants from four generations.

President Xue encouraged the children to learn earnestly and announced additional sponsorship for the "Friendship Dementia - Hundred-Hand Ukulele Concert" scheduled for August 27th at 3:00 PM in Dadao Park. He looks forward to witnessing the spectacular sight of a hundred people playing the ukulele together, bringing new hope to society through the power of music.
